Summary

"A wonderful and astonishing thing, the kind of book that makes child laugh and adult chuckle, and both smile in appreciation。 。 。 。 Charmingly wicked。" -- The New York Times

A bear's hat is gone, and he wants it back。 Patiently and politely, he asks the animals he comes across whether they have seen it。 None of them have。 Have you seen it? Jon Klassen's beloved tale plays out in sly illustrations brimming with visual humor -- and winks at us with a wry irreverence that will leave readers of all ages thrilled。 Available at last in a board book format, this #1 New York Times bestseller is a true modern classic。

The surprise plot twists in the Hat trilogy's first two books lightly shocked us even through we were anticipating them。 The third book ended much more gently, which threw off our expectations again。 The surprise plot twists in the Hat trilogy's first two books lightly shocked us even through we were anticipating them。 The third book ended much more gently, which threw off our expectations again。 。。。more

This is the story of a bear who has lost his hat。 He walks around asking several animals if they have seen his hat。 The dialog between the animals is cleverly written。 In the beginning of his search, he asks a rabbit in a pointy red hat but the rabbit denies seeing the hat。 Later int he story, the reader learns the bears missing hat is indeed a pointy red hat。 The bear was so focused on asking questions and finding the hat, he did not realize he actually saw the hat。 He later comes to the realiz This is the story of a bear who has lost his hat。 He walks around asking several animals if they have seen his hat。 The dialog between the animals is cleverly written。 In the beginning of his search, he asks a rabbit in a pointy red hat but the rabbit denies seeing the hat。 Later int he story, the reader learns the bears missing hat is indeed a pointy red hat。 The bear was so focused on asking questions and finding the hat, he did not realize he actually saw the hat。 He later comes to the realization, "I HAVE SEEN MY HAT。" The suggestion that he ate the rabbit who stole his hat could be disturbing。 。。。more

Featured in a grandma reads session。This is one of those books that I should have read all the way through before we started。The end was a surprise。 And we are still arguing over it。 In fact over two points where the group diverged in their thinking: 1) Beaver or Bear AND 2) Did he or didn't he? Good luck。 Featured in a grandma reads session。This is one of those books that I should have read all the way through before we started。The end was a surprise。 And we are still arguing over it。 In fact over two points where the group diverged in their thinking: 1) Beaver or Bear AND 2) Did he or didn't he? The 2nd book I've read of this author。 Pretty mischievous ending all right。 I now feel as I continue reading I may enjoy the illustrations more than the content。 The 2nd book I've read of this author。 Pretty mischievous ending all right。 I now feel as I continue reading I may enjoy the illustrations more than the content。 。。。more

Inconsequential but fine enough。

Did I laugh out loud in surprise? Yes。 Did I also think it was too disturbing for children? Yes。 Surely there is a better way to model conflict management that doesn’t involve eliminating your foe。

After reading this twaddle, I would say “I Want My Money Back”, but thankfully this book was free; donation pile

Funny。 Twisted sense of humor at the end。 :)

This is a wonderful read-aloud and picture book to read。 You can do various activities with this book in the classroom。 It also has an open-ended conclusion, so it allows readers to make inferences and hypotheses about the ending of the book。

Christina Rittenberry

Cute funny lil read。

I honestly did not love this book。 I thought it was repetitive and encouraged rude behavior。 Probably not best for my classroom, but I did think it was humorous and would read it to family or friends。

Abigail Serna

This is such a witty picture book! It allows for a younger audience to watch a story unfold to them that is unknown to the main character。 In this sense the audience early on knows who stole the bears hat but go along for the ride as the bear tries to find it。

No, why are you asking me。 I haven’t seen it。 I haven’t seen any hats anywhere。 I would not steal a hat。 Don’t ask me any more questions。

Sandy

Hilariously accurate and enjoyable to read-aloud。

I thought this book was interesting, it wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't read it again。 I wouldn't recommend this to be read in a classroom unless it was an older group (5th grade and up maybe)。 They might like it more, however be aware that there it mention of revenge, killing, and lying。 I thought this book was interesting, it wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't read it again。 I wouldn't recommend this to be read in a classroom unless it was an older group (5th grade and up maybe)。 They might like it more, however be aware that there it mention of revenge, killing, and lying。 。。。more

I visited a children's bookstore in 2011 to pick up some books for friends' kids (because I am that pestering person who loves to give kids books)。 The bookstore owner handed me this and said this was interesting, though it was。。。 unusual for kids。 Might have been meant as a warning but it sold me on the book instead, and after reading it, I bought a trove of other books for the kids and kept this for myself。 Beyond the minimalist deadpan storytelling, I love this as a masterpiece in illustratio I visited a children's bookstore in 2011 to pick up some books for friends' kids (because I am that pestering person who loves to give kids books)。 The bookstore owner handed me this and said this was interesting, though it was。。。 unusual for kids。 Might have been meant as a warning but it sold me on the book instead, and after reading it, I bought a trove of other books for the kids and kept this for myself。 Beyond the minimalist deadpan storytelling, I love this as a masterpiece in illustration, the way so much is conveyed in seemingly so little。 I've since been fortunate to have kid lit friends open my reader eyes even wider to the wonderful range of picture books out there and how enjoyable they can be at any age。 。。。more

It starts out as a simple quest to find the bear’s hat amongst other wildlife。 When it realized who stole the hat a little late, the expression and red color tint got me good。 Couldn’t stop laughing。 For such a minimalistic watercolor style, the expressions were everything。 It’s the deadpan kind of humor that I think both kids and adults will enjoy。

Amazing! So so SO good!!Also reminds me a bit of the old Grimm's Fairy Tales, but with some wicked humor。 Amazing! So so SO good!!Also reminds me a bit of the old Grimm's Fairy Tales, but with some wicked humor。 。。。more

This was a fun read to read, the storyline of this bear who loses his hat but finds that one of the animals lies。 I think that it is a great book to show that you should always tell the truth first because there are many consequences if you don't。 This was a fun read to read, the storyline of this bear who loses his hat but finds that one of the animals lies。 I think that it is a great book to show that you should always tell the truth first because there are many consequences if you don't。 。。。more
